Menorca is a dream island, with paradisiacal beaches, spectacular landscapes, a great diversity of animal species and a fascinating archaeological richness. But you can't forget to visit its towns and cities. There are eight municipalities that make up the island, in addition to three other population nuclei. Each has a special charm, corners that make it unique and totally different from the others. Get lost in its streets, soak up its culture, its traditions and customs, taste the flavors of the most typical dishes, buy in the local shops... In short, its villages will allow you to get to know Menorca in a more intense, deeper and more authentic way.

MAÓ

Maó, located to the east, is the capital of the island. A city with a rich historical legacy, which you can see reflected in its streets and squares, in emblematic buildings of very different styles and in prominent monuments and points of interest.

Its 6 km long port is one of the largest natural ports in the world. Very well located strategically in the Mediterranean, it has been the target of conquest by numerous civilizations that managed to invade the island throughout history. Today many cruise ships make a stopover in the port of Maó which, with its long promenade full of shops, terraces, restaurants and nightclubs, has become an important leisure area.

CIUTADELLA

At the other end is Ciutadella, the westernmost city on the island. The old town is located in what was the walled city and its narrow streets, ecclesiastical buildings, palaces and stately homes reveal the different episodes of the city's history. The labyrinthine alleys lead to the imposing Cathedral, located in the heart of the city, which was built on an ancient Arab mosque.

The picturesque harbour, with many small boats, is filled with life at night with tourists and locals who enjoy the artisanal market, shops, restaurants and nightclubs.

ALAIOR

Alaior was built around a hill on which the church of Santa Eulalia was built during the fourteenth century. That is why in this small town predominate the slopes, a charm that makes unique the central streets, in which are surprising buildings of great historical value. Alaior is known for its cheese industry, shoemaker and pastry chef, as well as for home to the extension of the University of the Balearic Islands.

FERRERIES

Ferreries is located between the mountains of Santa Agueda and S'Enclusa and the ravines of Algendar and Son Fideu. Its historic core grew around the church of Sant Bartomeu and its narrow and simple streets invite you to enjoy the tranquility of this village. Its shoe, furniture and jewellery factories stand out.

IT'S MERCHANDISE

Located in the heart of the island and in the foothills of Monte Toro, the highest mountain in Menorca, Es Mercadal grew around the church of Sant Martí and an old mill. This village invites visitors to stroll at a quiet pace through its charming streets of white houses and sit down for a drink in one of its squares.

ES CASTELL

Es Castell is located in the easternmost point of Spain and is therefore the first place in the country where the sun rises. Founded by the British under the name Georgetown, it still retains the heritage of British domination in its buildings and streets, which lead to Cales Fonts, an ancient fishing pier, reflecting the essence of the Mediterranean in its artisan shops, terraces and bars with privileged views.

IT'S BIG MIGJORN

Located in the south of Menorca, Es Migjorn Gran is a small town that maintains the traditional essence of the island. Built around the church of Sant Cristofol, calm reigns in this village of narrow streets of whitewashed houses that alternate with facades of striking colors. It stands out for being one of the richest regions in megalithic monuments.

SANT LLUÍS

Sant Lluís was founded by the French during its occupation of the island and is one of the youngest villages. A windmill welcomes visitors, and invites visitors to learn about the calm that is breathed in its traditional streets of white houses that lead to the amazing neoclassical church.

Located on the north coast of the island, in the municipality of Es Mercadal, Fornells is a small fishing village that is full of life in summer. Its charming streets and promenade make it a must stop for tourists visiting the island, especially those who want to taste the lobster stew. Its wind-protected bay of tramontana is the ideal place for endless water activities.
